China Trip

Nick has been in China since January 2nd. He will be there until January 24th. He is currently in Beijing, but will also be visiting Shanghai and Hong Kong before heading home. Here are some of the pictures he has sent.

Owen gave Nick one of his toy cars to take to China with him to remember him by. When he talks to Nick on the phone he asks about it. So Nick took a picture with it for him. Nick keeps it in his pocket.

This is near the highest point in the background of the previous photos. My thighs were burning so I thought a photo op might be a good excuse for a break.

The Great Wall was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. We hiked around on it for several hours and then took the Alpine Slide down. You could see it continue on for miles and miles in each direction - even to the highest peaks in the distance. It was really amazing.

This is the entrance to the Forbidden City

This is inside the Forbidden City.

This is the garden inside the Forbidden City where President Faust dedicated China for the preaching of the Gospel.

The Temple of Heaven. It was super cold - probably the coldest I have ever been in my life. It was between 10 and 20 degrees with a strong wind blowing from the north. At least I was wearing my long johns.

Chuar. Amazing. During our Mandarin class we ate this stuff for lunch three days in a row. We ate 90 of these babies between the 8 of us on the last day. And nobody threw up.

Here's the proof.

The west entrance to Peking University. It sure beats the west gate at BYU.

Tyler and I met the Woods at church and they were gracious enough to invite us out to dinner. They are teaching English at Peking University in conjunction with the Kennedy Center at BYU. We were living in the dorms just down from them during our Mandarin class. They are from Price, Utah.

Tyler took this - a great shot. Notice those are not clouds in the sky - it's the pollution. But it was still incredible.

The large palace in the middle is the Palace of the Fragrant Buddha. We hiked up to it and over to the other side of the hill.

A beautiful shot of the Summer Palace in the northwest part of Beijing. This area was absolutely incredible - and it is huge!

So I am hoping your lack of posts means you have a new baby :).
