Jaren's First Week and a Half

Jaren is now home and life is becoming normal once again. Maddy is wowing us all with her incredible natural abilities as a mother. She has been up many times each night for the last week and has not complained - or really even asked for help. I know I now sound like a lazy husband, but seriously - I offer and even force my way in to help - but she always says she is fine. She has let me help out, but I think only to allow me to be the dad. She seriously is even more impressive than you might suspect. Amazing.

Jaren is now sleeping and eating on a fairly regular schedule and he complains only slightly more than Maddy. He doesn't seem to cry much (only when he's hungry) and we feel so blessed to have such a healthy and good-tempered little guy. He loves having his hair washed in the sink and will quickly grab on to your finger with his tiny hands. It has been a lot of fun.

Things have been fairly uneventful outside of Jaren's arrival from the hospital. I have been working to catch up in my classes and my professors have been gracious enough to give me some leeway there. Owen and Corbin have continued to do very well in their respective activities and both of them have continued to be very excited about their new little brother - no signs of jealousy, which we are grateful for.

We have also been blessed by the amount of help and support that have been offered. Several meals and other helpful favors have been offered and it has made things much smoother. Thank you to the Lucases, Leavitts, Hernandez, Duffys, Pettys and others who have been so helpful, not to mention our family who have stopped by to help out or even stay a few days.

Maddy's mom was here for 3 days taking care of Owen and Corbin, then took them home with her to Mesa for the weekend, which was a huge help to Maddy and I as we brought Jaren home. My mom also stayed the night after the delivery and made sure things ran smoothly. It would have been quite difficult to run things without their help. And we know how busy they both are.

We had many visitors to Maddy's hospital room and our home after Jaren came home. Nearly all of our local family members were able to stop by and this definitely brightened Maddy's day, although it apparently wasn't too exciting to Jaren (notice the yawn).

This picture totally cracks me up. Maddy's younger sister, Maryann, is having a blast seeing and holding Jaren, but evidently not her new boyfriend, Cameron. If someone can come up with a good Photoshop version of this photo with thought bubbles I'll be glad to throw it up on the site.

Jaren was the first to be dressed and ready to leave the hospital last Friday.
