Camping 101

We survived a ward camping trip with our 7 month old!
Based on the experience we have decided not to go camping again until our youngest is 3!

Jaren was a pill all night. He went down around 8:30 and slept good (unless the kids were by the tent talking loud - even then he would cry for less than a minute and go back to sleep). 10 minutes after we got settled, around 11:00 when most people were headed to bed, he of course started crying. I tried holding him, rocking him, and everything else. He would settle down for 30 minutes then fuss again. At about 3:30 I decided to go into the van with my bedding and let him fuss all he wanted so he didn't bug the ward members. I finally got Jaren to sleep for about an hour in the van before the sun cam up and he was up for good.
How could I stay mad at a face like this!
He loved crawling around the van exploring! You would never be able to tell he didn't sleep much!
For dinner the boys got to roast hot dogs. Later the ward provided fixing for smores!
I totally look drunk or high, but it was the only picture that I had to prove that I carried our 20+ pound baby on my back. (Less than 15 minutes later Nick relieved me!)
Don't they look cute.
Again, how could we be mad at this face?
We went on a long nature walk. The boys had a super time learning about nature. They even got to touch a few plants. Owen had a hard time staying behind the leader.
He wanted to go, go, go!
Here is the group of nature hikers!
Corbin even found pizza and a plate!
We let Jaren roam free in the field while we loaded up. He loved the freedom and eating the grass.

As you can see our small tent (we borrowed from a friend) isn't exactly in the wilderness. We were grateful for the flat ground. The boys actually slept with our friends in the neighboring tent. We did have a great time, even with our "night time" issues! The boys loved being outdoors. It was a fun family adventure!

That was so fun to read about! I know about the no sleep on camping trips - Riley hardly slept on our campout a few months ago! Your boys are getting so BIG!!

Yeah there is no way you can be mad at Jaren when he has such a cute little face! Sounds like despite the sleep you had a good time!

Why do kids do that? They'll sleep perfectly until you decide you want to sleep - they sense it - and then they wake up and stay awake all night! Glad you guys had fun in spite of no sleep!

See what I mean?! You are such a good mom. I don't know if I would've even tried to stay overnight with my baby. I'm glad you guys are having fun!
